Try fixing the source code by  changing the line in the Stage_source_folder>libstageplugin->p_driver.cc

"world->Update()"    to     "Fl::wait()"

and then recompile and reinstall (meaning:  $  make; sudo make install) and that's all...it should be fix you problem...

Also, perhaps you are missing to export the STAGEPATH variable....(Read the setup instructions in the INSTALL file in the Stage package)

The Stage window starts but the window stays grey and my system locks up
completely - no mouse after an hour waiting to see if my pc is just slow.
Any suggestions?
