So, I'm IRC'ing at work on a technical channel (#code4lib), and when I come back from a meeting, I've been disconnected from the campus backbone. A little later, I get a nice little note from campus IT stating, among other things that my computer has > a virus which generates a detectable scan pattern or alternatively is > being used inappropriately. Reason for this lock: IRC bot/trojan - > remote control of host. Comment: This has an IRC bot on it checking > into a host 82.96.64.4 kornbluth.freenode.net located in Germany TCP > port 6667 every minute.. Once the associated machine has been cleaned The last time this happened I thought it was because I had a /notify list, and gaim was polling the notify list. But apparently not, since I eliminated the notify. I have saved the channel as a chat room, so I can join it easily. Might that be the problem? How can I tell gaim to shut up, or at least not send keepalives? - David |
