Anything which is set to execute on a timer or a delay or is the result of a delayed callback (such as an asynchronous connection request or DNS lookup) would lead to erratic behavior if it didn't crash and was not cancelled, unless each possible callback for such a situation does a GAIM_CONNECTION_IS_VALID() type check which we're trying to move away from.
