this might be musictracker but it happens at totally random times. pidgin uses up all the cpu. any pointers/ ideas would be greatly appreciated

here is the debug log from when it just happened now.

just to add. this used to happen before i used music tracker.

is there anything unusual in the above log?

I thought you were still using currenttrack proper?  :)

Since (I just checked it, as I didn't know about musictracker) musictracker appears to be a fork of currenttrack, maybe the problem existed with currenttrack as well.  Have you tried disabling the musictracker/currenttrack plugin(s) and seeing if the problem continues?

(BTW, as I finally just got around to setting up and using currenttrack again with Pidgin, is there any benefit to switching to musictracker?)

good point next time it happens will disable the plugins.

problem with currenttrack is that for msn ids it has no way of notifying your buddy what track you are listening to, it will only update the icon with the album artwork.

musictracker gets round the inibility to modify msn status by modifying the nickname with the track. however it doesn't seem to be able to update album artwork that well. and disappointingly musictracker has a bug with unusual characters (e.g. e acute) and crashes pidgin whenever you play one. the bug has been in the bug report for a year and nothing has been fixed... :(

running both plugins at the same time with musictracker set to modify MSN nicks and status for others, and currenttrack doing album art just about gets what i want.

Wait, so you're basically running Pidgin + currenttrack + currenttrack + iTunes?

Sounds a bit risky.  I know you said the problem existed before you were running musictracker, but currenttrack and musictracker, being almost the same program, could potentially conflict with each other trying to do the same things.  And while I have nothing against iTunes, it can be a bit heavy on resources.

I think I'll stick with currenttrack for the moment - none of my MSN contacts really care about what I'm listening to.  :)

      that would be:

      Pidgin + currenttrack + musictracker + iTunes

and 99% of the time its really cool. no real issues on speed. iTunes uses 2% of the cpu and good ol pidgin uses 0% lol. its just on random occassions it completely locks up and pidgin uses all of the remaining cpu for no apparent reason.

and i definitely had this problem before i had heard of musictracker. maybe i'll post the above code over in the current track forum and see if john can see anything unusual.

I only said 'currenttrack + currenttrack' because musictracker, as a fork of currenttrack, is still probably largely the same code.  :)

It could be a (random?) issue with the way the code polls iTunes, perhaps.

Edit: Meant to say the 'currenttrack' code.  The problem could've already existed with CT and have been carried over to MT.

its currenttrack. if i turn off currenttrack when it happens then the problems stop. it only happened with certain albums. a totally lateral piece of thinking finally deduced that the albums that caused the problem are where the artwork is very large... e.g. over 2MB.

and... since musictracker is a fork of currenttrack i guess the same would apply there too. but i didnt test that as i use currenttrack to change the artwork not musicttracker (as musicttracker is poorer at updating artwork).
