Hello.
Is it any way to connect to AIM from behind corporate firewall ?
Maybe via special port (which is usually open) or some specific server ?
Or maybe some proxy ?
Using Pidgin 2.3.0 on Windows XP SP2.
Right now I have following settings in AIM account advanced tab:
server: login.messaging.aol.com
port: 5190
"always use ICQ proxy server for file transfers" checkbox: unchecked
Proxy type: Use Global Proxy settings (which means actually "no proxy").
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
If port 5190 is blocked, you need to use port 443. 443 is the standard port for SSL (e.g. HTTPS), and it's highly unlikely this port is blocked by your employer. My company blocks all ports except 80, 443, and 21, so 443 is your best bet to get through firewalls for AIM and Google Talk. You can configure Yahoo! accounts to use 80 (HTTP).
If you are behind a corporate proxy server, you need to go change your proxy settings IN PIDGIN (if you are using Windows, the proxy settings in Internet Explorer's Internet Options window will make no difference) to match whatever proxy settings your company uses.
