I frankly don't know (a) whether this is a bug, or (b) if it is, who's responsible. But when I recently upgraded to Mavericks Server and pMA 4.0.9, pMA would not launch, instead reporting MySQL error 2002, "file does not exist or socket is not configured correctly".

I had to explicitly declare the location of the connection socket as /tmp/mysql.sock in the php.ini file (it appears in 3 places) to get things working again. Supposedly if these are not declared in php.ini the MySQL defaults will be used, but in my case they didn't appear to be.

    Rob,
did you test your other PHP app after removing the changes in php.ini?
