#2602 Unable to create new medi

Gerry Kroll

From a phpGedView source page, I click on adding a new media. I select the *.jpg file to be uploaded. I just select the document type as "Document" and add a Title. After submitting, the page appears blank ("addmedia.php" in URL). If I do a refresh (F5) on this blank page, I receive the message media file "file xxx.jpg" already exists. But the media has not been created.
When I check on my server, the file has effectively been uploaded (even if I do not the Refresh step).
Context: browser Firefox 3.0.10
Thanks for your help in this matter.

PGV is probably trying to create a thumbnail for your JPG file, and might have run out of memory.

When PGV has to create a thumbnail, TWO copies of the bit map represented by the incoming JPG file have to be in memory at the same time. This increases PGV's memory requirements dramatically.

PGV is not always able to determine ahead of time that it will run out of memory. The problem isn't with PGV -- it's the graphics library that PGV has to use.

    You can do the following:
    (a) give PGV more memory
    (b) reduce the size of the incoming JPG
    (c) create the thumbnail outside PGV using any suitable graphics file editor and then upload the thumbnail at the same time the main image is being uploaded.
