Search function error: word with umlaut - v4.1.6
Search for a name beginning with "ö" [o umlaut], for example "ödi" doesn't find a name like "Ödipus".
Search with capital letter [O umlaut] for example "Ödi" gives the result "Ödipus".
This is a known problem, and has been discussed many times.
The problem is that the database set-up inversion 4.1.6 does NOT use the UTF-8 character set. The data in the database IS UTF-8, but it's handled as a form of ASCII. Just look at one of the German language files without telling your text editor that the file is UTF-8 without BOM. You'll immediately see the problem.
This has been fixed in version 4.2, which we expect to release sometime in January. This version tells the database that all text fields are in the UTF-8 character set. End of problem.
We do not intend to fix this for version 4.1.6. There are too many program changes to make this feasible.
Thank you for the explanation.
Indeed it is not necessary to fix the problem. We will use majuscules instead of minuscules. Voilà.
