I have file "Ösel; Island 113.jpg" on my site.
It was uploaded by a user.

When I import my Gedcom or update this media, PGV changes the filename in the GEDCOM to "sel; Island 113.jpg".
The file on the server remains with the letter Ö and we do not see the picture.

I remove the Ö from the filename on the server outside PGV.
Now I see the picture.

I try to change the filename by adding the Ö to it.
The filename on the server is changed.
The filename on the GEDCOM is again written without the Ö and I do not see the media.

I have the same problem with the file name שער.gif. I do no longer see it in PGV.

also, some special characters, particularly "" in the TITL cause the image to incorrectly display in the Album. See link to PNG (ScreenCap). (SF wouldn't let me attach). http://myarnolds.com/lightbox-prob.png

    Meliza and Stephen
I have a sneaking feeling that the " or ' in the TITL that causes problems in Album, is caused by my use of eregi() when I should be using preg_match() I will be looking at this item this week.

Not sure whether this is the same problem as the original, but thought I would mention it as Album was referred to by Stephen.

I have still the problems for files whose names contain Hebrew or Umlaut letters.
The problems are both in importing a new media file and in trying to rename the file name in PGV.

I uploaded media files with fiile names containing Hebrew letters or umlauts to the server using MyGedView - Upload Media files. The files are uploaded as expected.

I had file שנה-טובה.gif on the server and linked it to an individual.
The linked file does not exist because it was changed to -טובה.gif.

I added a media file to an individual from the client.
The name of the file is העבר.jpg
In mediaviewer I see this name.
In the individual media and album tabs I see .jpg in a blue box.
After I approve the addition, I see the full name.

I downloaded and imported the file and see the media as expected.

Meliza - from your last post, I guess this problem is fixed?
