While trying to figure out how to configure networking in OpenDarwin 7.2.1 using ncutil rather than *nix commands/flat files (as they aren't static), I noticed that Darren Woodford had asked about the same problem on this list. As I have now figured out how to get this working, I thought I'd post the solution/workaround. Check the output of ifconfig to find out the adapter name (en1 using rtl8139, en2 using 3C90x - for me anyway) Edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist using vi as root (or sudo) Change the line "<string>en0</string>" to match the adapter listed by ifconfig (eg. "<string>en1</string>") I also changed both occurences of "Built-in Ethernet" to "PearPC Ethernet", but that's just me You can now use ncutil to configure network settings (see: http://lists.apple.com/archives/darwin-x86/2004/Feb/msg00018.html for an example) This should also be applicable for Darwin 7.0.1 I suspect that the "bus error" message is due to the fact that there is no en0 adapter (this is just a guess though..) -- Laurie Bradshaw |
