AIX is not supported (and cannot run on) G4, maybe it will be
possible for the 970 processors (for usage in blade servers). Today
supported processors are: Power4(+) and soon Power5. Older ones
are Power1, Power2, Power3, 601 and 603.
A history: http://www.rootvg.net/column_risc.htm

I have no clue how difficult it is to implement this but if you can
provide some feedback? I'm afraid it "goes over my head" doh..

A Power4 processor would be nice - it is never attempted and the
AIX community will be verry thankfull, those RISC machines are
VERRY expensive!!

I agree that this would be very interesting. But please try
to work on it yourself or find people that can work on this.
We've got LOTS of other things to do.
We would need someone working exclusively on this. Maybe you
can come back later (in a few month) and propose this again?
    Thanks.

First step to look would be the PVR register ?

Currently it is locked at $0008 8302, which
    is a G3 (740/750) 400-500 MHz I believe...

First steps towards adding support for G4/G5
would be Altivec and PPC64, respectively.
