I had tried OO, with no luck, but after your msg I tried again. The results were strange. It wouldn't open the 1040, and in fact wouldn't open the Foxit-saved version, as well. Nor would it open the .pdf that I had modified with PDFEdit. It would open the versions of pages from the pdftk 'burst' operation on the Pub571 (to use the worksheets) but not the PDFEdit-ed versions (worksheet entries). It would open 1040sb, and some other such form documents, but not all of them. When I tried it on the instructions for 1040, it finally did open it, but it took over ten minutes to do it (Athlon 64 3000+, 2GB, Kubuntu9.10). On most of these that did open, the formatting was seriously mucked-up, making them hard to read. I didn't try any mods. Incidentally, a better work-around than before seems to be to use pdftk to split the documents into pages and then use PDFEdit on them. Faster, no problems with the bright-red Foxit Evaluation Copy watermarking. Still puzzled as to what's going on. Thanks again, Joe |
