Hi,

Do you have any emails or notes you could send me about
the problem with the ide device and the vaio?
I have one and would be interested in poking around.

From known problems:
---------------------------------------------------
o On the Sony VAIO PCG-N505VE, after a suspend, no
interrupts are
delivered by the CardBus bridge until the system is
rebooted.

Prognosis: I've spent a lot of time trying to track
this down, but
I'm completely stumped. The PCMCIA drivers appear to
restore the
state of the CardBus bridge correctly, and the PCI
interrupt router
is also configured properly. But no interrupts get
through.

I don't understand your question about the problem "with
the IDE device". The problem documented in the BUGS file
is very specific: on only a few VAIO models, suspending
causes interrupts to be disabled for all PCMCIA devices.
Is this the specific, exact problem you care about?

If so, I'm afraid I don't have a lot to add. Back when I
tried to track this down, I verified that every register in
the PCMCIA bridge was restored correctly after the suspend,
and I also verified that the interrupt routing registers of
the south bridge were not changed. So I was left with no
good ideas for what could be wrong.

I have a N505X which I believed to be the same as the
    N505VX.

I find there seems to be two issues with it which I consider
    seperate.
    1/ ide-cd doesn't work after suspend.
2/ ide-cd doesn't work if the pcmcia card is not plugged in
    on power up
I've been lead to belive the second is due to the interupt
it is assigned but I've not confirmed that. Most of the time
I suspend it so the first overides this problem.
The intersting thing about the first is that my network card
(tulip cardbus) works find after suspend (in the 2.2.19
kernel it just came back to life) in the 2.4 kernels it
seemed to need to be reloaded. However nothing works for the
    IDE.

Theres a simiar problem with the irda interupts not getting
through after suspend, but as ide-pcmcia has been worked on
I thought I might see what I could learn here first.

I was wondering if the interupt mask could be wrong after a
    suspend?
I must confess to having only dated knowlege of interupts
    and their working on PC's

    Thanks for your time,
    M

I think that you are not seeing the VAIO suspend problem
documented in the BUGS file. For that problem, no card
will receive interrupts after a suspend; also, card
insertions and removals will not be detected. This
persists until you reboot. It sounds like your network
card will work after a suspend, perhaps requiring a driver
    reload.

It sounds like your problem is specific to the IDE driver.
The power-up issue is curious; I would be interested to see
the PCMCIA startup messages and the IDE driver messages
when the card is either present at boot time, or inserted
    later.

Heres the log with a normal boot and installing the ide
drive. Looks OK and works well.
I tried it after a suspend and it hung hard no mouse, no
    caps lock...
Should we move this to the ide message forum?
