I would appreciate an option for the previous, more compact look.

Discussion

  • It was not that but next one commit that added extra few pixels to icon view. I've reverted it back. Test it, please, if it satisfies you.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the spacing is still quite a lot greater. Screenshots attached.

  • I see now what you meant. Are you sure that is the icon view? From your screenshot it seems more like thumbnails view. Until now the thumbnail view was alike icon view but with bigger icons. I've changed it, it is a bit different now and shows icons alike they are on your screenshot. See the change in Git. Choose thumbnail mode with desired icon size instead of icon view, and report back, please, if it satisfies your request. In any case, the column width was 96px before, it is still the same with icon sizes 48px (icon view), 64px, or 96px (thumbnail view) after last changes. Since there is no reason to have file name width less than icon width, with icons bigger than 96px it will be so. The main purpose of the last changes was to look better with smaller icons (what is required for smaller screen resolutions such as 800*480 for example).
    Thank you very much.

The screenshots are definitely of icon view. For as long as I've used pcmanfm, the thumbnail view has looked roughly the same as the screenshot of 76102338, only with slightly more horizontal padding.

The new thumbnail view looks a lot better though, it's almost as compact as icon view was before, which is good enough for me.

Thanks a lot for the fix.
