I'm using PCManFM git from july 2nd. if I try to copy a file directly to the desktop nothing happens. I have tried using Ctrl + V and the context menu but no of them is working. Only copying a file to ~/Desktop works as a workaround.
I could not reproduce it but I've found some errors. Fixed them all and rebuilt PPA. Update, please, to new version and try again, I hope it's fixed now.
Thank you very much!
I'm still not able to copy files directly to the desktop. I have even removed the content of ~/Desktop and tried to copy some files directly to the desktop but it doesn't work.
I can copy or move files onto desktop directly either from Pcmanfm window or from Thunar without problem. It's weird really because I'm testing exactly the same binaries from PPA. :(
Don't know yet how to reproduce the problem...
Let me ask you - have you updated both libfm and pcmanfm? And what version of ubuntu do you have? Thank you!
/var/lib/dpkg/status contains on pcmanfm "Version: 0.9.10-0+git120703" as "Status: install ok installed" and on libfm3 "Version: 0.1.99-0+git120703.1" as "Status: install ok installed". The system was already rebooted too after the installation (I'm testing first the non-debug packages and using the debug packages only after a crash appeared). I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 dev.
I have now downgraded to PCManFM 0.9.10 from the Ubuntu repository and restartet PCManFM (I have just used a SIGINT on the pcmanfm process). With the old version I could copy the files to the dektop again (but there is the bug which is copying the file 2 times to the desktop - which should be already fixed (maybe it has something to do with this problem)). After upgrading to the git version the bug appears again. But I have 2 other little suggestions:
1. Your ppa package doesn't seem to remove the Ubuntu packages correctly (maybe because they have another name). libfm-data_0.1.99-0+git120703.1_all.deb tried to overwrite /usr/share/libfm/ui/ask-rename.ui which was still used by libfm-gtk-data 0.1.17-0ubuntu3 (which will abort the installation process). The same appears on downgrading. I have just uninstalled the old packages before to get it working.
2. A more detailed version output for PCManFM (the git version is still saying version 0.9.10 which makes it difficult to say if it is the final or the git version). The PCManFM version dialog could also contain which version of libfm is currently loaded.
Thank you very much. Unfortunately I don't have 12.10 installed anywhere.
Bug with copying twice has no relation with this one I think. But I cannot tell what is this one really as I still cannot reproduce it. :(
About (1) - I've added conflict into control file so it should autoremove that old package. Thank you a lot.
About (2) - this is yet git version, it will be renumbered to 1.0-rc1 as soon there is no critical bugs in this tracker opened still (including this one too, of course). About including libfm version into pcmanfm output - thank you for advice but it should go rather in feature requests, and I'll take it as one.
I have tested this again with PCManFM 0.9.10-0+git120706 and all is working fine. I could even finally test if the double copy bug is fixed (and can confirm that the fix is working).
