Port of the Password Safe application to Android

Chrome and Chromebook Support

A beta version of PasswdSafe packaged as a Chrome extension is available from the file downloads.

  1. On a Chromebook, install an official app such as Evernote. On a PC with the Chrome browser, the extension requires the ARChon 1.2 runtime.
  2. Download the extension from the file downloads
  3. Unzip the extension
  4. Enable developer mode in the Chrome extensions window
  5. Load an unpacked extension and choose the unzipped directory

Please provide feedback on the discussion forums.

Cloud Services

Start by uploading .psafe3 files to your Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or ownCloud account using the service’s native app or website. PasswdSafe Sync should then sync the files to your phone or tablet.

  • Dropbox – Individual Dropbox files can be chosen to synchronize.

  • Box – Box files should be placed in the top folder or any folder tagged with ‘passwdsafe’ so it shows in a search result.

  • Google Drive – Google Drive files can be located anywhere.

  • OneDrive - Individual OneDrive files can be chosen to synchronize

  • ownCloud - Individual ownCloud files can be chosen to synchronize.

YubiKey Support

Prior to using a YubiKey with PasswdSafe, the key needs to be programmed for Password Safe, and a password needs to be set with the YubiKey by the PC program. Help is available in the PC program for the setup.

To use a YubiKey NEO with PasswdSafe, follow these steps:

  1. Enable NFC support in the device settings
  2. Enter the user password to the file
  3. Choose which slot on the YubiKey has the challenge-response key. Usually slot 2 is used for Password Safe.
  4. Press the YubiKey button
  5. Within 30 seconds, press the YubiKey to the back of the phone or tablet. There will be sounds as the key is being read. If the device doesn't respond with a rising tone, try moving the key around. A bit of trial-and-error is needed to find the correct location. The button on the YubiKey itself does not need to be pressed.
  6. Once the key is found, it will be used to authenticate with your password. The file will open automatically.

Application Association

  • ASTRO File Manager – The ASTRO file manager requires settings to be added to set a MIME type for the .psafe3 and .dat file extensions. In the application’s preferences, edit file extensions. Add extensions for psafe3 and dat to the MIME type application and sub-type x-psafe. Afterwards, file should open automatically when selected.

  • Dropbox – Files synced from Dropbox should open automatically when clicked. Newer versions of Dropbox will automatically sync files if they are modified and then saved in PasswdSafe.

  • Google Drive – Google Drive will automatically open files with PasswdSafe. Currently, Google Drive, does not support synchronization of modified files. The files are opened read-only in PasswdSafe.

  • OI File Manager – PasswdSafe files should open automatically.

The app itself doesn't have any file management options. You can use other file management apps or your PC to manage the password files. I am going to delete this post as I prefer questions on the forums rather than in the wiki which is for documentation.
