I have noticed that seams have not been created in flat formats such as jpeg. The output has the later files always at the top of the earlier files. I tracked the bug and found the problem (it is not yet in SVN). In the process of fixing it I came to a new one: We currently support the following formats: PSD_mask, PSD_m, TIFF_m, TIFF_mask, JPEG, JPG, PSD, TIFF and PNG. What is expected behaviour? I suggest the following, but I don't want to break "backward compatiblity": * PSD_mask and TIFF_mask create stitching masks, and leave the layers each separated. They will all have alpha channels with the optimal mask. * TIFF_m and PSD_m do not create stitching masks, and leave the layers each separated? They will all have alpha channels covering the complete mapped image. * JPEG, JPG, PSD, TIFF, and PNG will all create stitching masks, then flatten the image. thanks! -- Daniel M. TIFF_mask and TIFF_m have always created multiple files. The nona stitcher introduced another format called TIFF_multilayer which is a single multilayer TIFF file with no masks. Apparently the TIFF standard is a bit vague concerning these 'multilayer' files. Some tools will open them as a series of images, some as a series of layers. -- Bruno |

For instance, for input one layer can be to specify areas to stitch, another one for areas to use for colour correction, etc. Same for output. TIFF should handle the multiple alpha channels (according to the spec) but the problem is that panotools is hard-coded to 3 or 4 channels per image. I think we need to start thinking about removing this restriction to assume an image can have "n-channels" and all of them have to be mapped from source to output.
