I'm trying to setup automounting of a samba share for our users. Unfortunately it seems that mount.cifs refuses to mount a share for users if it's not in the /etc/fstab . This seems to be a change the CIFS guys made for security reasons a while back. I'm running Ubuntu Natty. Has anyone got a workaround? Chmod +s on /sbin/mount.cifs doesn't work I'm afraid.

suid is not needed, pam_mount runs as root - or at least, is supposed to be. Enable <debug enable="1" /> in the config file, and then post the messages it writes to syslog.
