Six Newbie Questions
A few questions. Don't know if these exist or how easy they are to
1. Is it possible to have news not just on homepage?
Yes - see
*** Yep, I'd just spotted that, thanks ***
2. Is it possible to have a next page link for news archives when too long
for one page?
This has been discussed but nobody has stepped forward to take a stab
at it. The relevant file to edit would be src/pagetool/pt_news.inc. If you want
to give it a shot, it would be great!
*** This would be a huge step forward. I'll take a look but I'm not that
3. Alternative sidebar instead of news sidebar on pages other than
No - this would take more hacking of the pagetool.inc. I don't think there is
an easy way to accomplish this (wait for Pagetool 2 ... :-)).
*** This was what I was getting at in my other 'php extension' post. I was
thinking of using a 'php include' in some pages (for example, where 'test'
page says 'add text here' you could add a php include to call an extra
sidebar within it). And then I can edit that new sidebar when subjects are
4. I'm getting this error for all pages that I set as 'php' why?
Parse error: parse error in
ool/pagetool.inc(160) : eval()'d code on line 1
Are you including the "<?php"? You should not be. When using the PHP
option you do not need to enclose the code in php tags.
*** Similar to above. Yes I saw an earlier post, but I seem to only be able
to use 'include' when the page code is selected as 'php'. But these pages
don't seem to recognise html (???).***
5. At present I am testing pagetool in a directory called 'pagetool'. If
I move all the files out of this directory - will the system still work - if Ionly
change the 3 files created on 'fresh_install'?
6. How do I get a little more space between the 'sidebar' and 'body'?
*** I've worked this out! ***
Different people have used different strategies for this (mostly
involving modifying the td tag in the profile). However - it would be
great to hear your solution.
*** That was what I did! :) Hope you get the idea with the rest of my
replies... some are difficult to explain... Love the simplicity of Pagetool - I
want to get my head around the plugin concept - that probably gives a lot
of modification posibilities ***
