A todo item I would like to add for p4wposix as we mature and develop is
an idea I've toyed about in my head for years. As we all know there are
certain restrictions placed on the posix development because of the file
system features supported by MS. One way to overcome this is to create
file containers which contain the p4wposix file system. However, this
will have to wait until after we have broken p4wposix into relative pieces.
The first step to the file container idea is to create a p4wposixk.dll
which is a kernel driver providing the POSIX kernel calls. The first
item to run before using this new method will be p4wposixboot which will
init the posix kernel.
In order to enhance this idea I will create a p4wposixk CVS directory so
that we can start coding it. If you know of others that would like to
help on this rewrite, please send them our way. I will eventually
advertise on SF for the need for developers.
After the kernel of course we need a runtime interface, perhaps newlib,
perhaps glibc, perhaps MSVCRT with extentions, perhaps one of our own.
I'll create a p4wposixr directory for the runtime coding that will need
The creation of these directories won't happen for a while. I'm busy
coping files from my NT4 laptop to my newly acquired Evo N610c Compaq
installed with XP pro. I don't want to disturbed the file system while
