All, The slot was hooked to a signal that did not exist. Thanks for the code Matt, it's in cvs now. I'm surprised that compiled. Hidden by qmake stuff I guess. I used the image chain editor, added the 3x3 and tested with no error. Thanks for the bug report Fredric. Dave ps: If you have the QT development package they have an application called "assistant".
