I made a slight adjustment to the name of the swicki I posted yesterday, which is why some of you may not be able to find it by going directly to the eurekster site. Add in the word "System" http://swicki.eurekster.com/swickis/Open_Source_Systems_for_Libraries.htm Eric _____ From: oss...@li... Subject: [oss4lib-discuss] OSS4Lib Swicki Good Morning, Being a librarian and living in Columbus has some advantages. One of those is that there are frequent opportunities to talk with researchers from OCLC. During a recent discussion that began with federated search engines, and included mentions of projects like http://www.librarything.com/ and http://redlightgreen.com/ , there was a common thread about the role of wikis. That led to some side discussion and my discovery of the "swicki." Many of you may already be well acquainted with swickis. If not, Swicki's are community powered search engines, tailored to produce targeted search results for the community. Central to the concept is that a swicki can be trained. Sites that are useful can be promoted and those not relevant can be excluded. A "buzz cloud" provides a swarm of words that are hot in the community. The search results from a swicki are more focused than a general search engine and they will continue to learn and adapt, anonymously and automatically, based on the search behavior of the community. So, I decided to create the Open Source for Libraries swicki.
