There's also a commercial outfit that does this for a living -- locks and and remotely manages desktops, including use of thin clients if that's your thing.

This is what I love about open-source: someone saw a need, saw open source that would get people much of the way there, and built a business around it.

The outfit is at www.userful.com -- I know nothing about them except that the exist.
