Work continues on Avanti MicroLCS with a target date for a version 1.0 release in December 2002. The basic "circulation engine" is now complete.  The last remaining development task is building tools for expressing simple circulation policies and integrating the circulation component into the rest of MicroLCS.  This will be reserved as the final development step before testing and packaging for release.  Current development activites include:

  - Refining and documenting the public API.
  - Writing the "Avanti Primer" user guide.
  - Documenting the Avanti client/server network protocol.
  - Refactoring and polishing the graphical client and text based client.

Once the circulation component is fully integrated, development of new features will cease, and the software will enter a period of rigorous testing and refactoring.  Documentation work will continue in parallel with the testing.  When the testing and documentation are complete,  Avanti MicroLCS version 1.0 will be packaged for release.

Although I don't plan on releasing any code until 1.0 is complete, the online demo at the project website will be updated periodically to reflect the current state of the system.  The demo may be expanded to show other things besides the basic OPAC search client.  I may post select pieces of documentation in the near future that will give people an idea of what to expect.  I will also post the API documentation when it is reasonably complete.  Should the project slip considerably from the target date, A beta version of Avanti MicroLCS may be released in December 2002, but that doesn't seem likely at this time.
