Natural ORM Architect: 2010-07 CTP Released

The July 2010 Community Technology Preview of Natural Object-Role Modeling Architect for Visual Studio is now available through http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/orm or http://www.ormfoundation.org

Expanding the appropriate file download and running Setup.bat will uninstall any old NORMA version and reinstall the new NORMA components. Visual Studio instances should be shutdown before running setup, and Vista/Windows 7 users should either launch the provided SetupVista.bat or explicitly run Setup.bat as an Administrator. The release includes modifications through changeset 1452.

The July 2010 release improves support for verbalization of join paths over set comparison constraints and adds verbalization for automatic join paths across objectifications (a common uniqueness constraint pattern). The join path verbalization engine is a visible part of the underlying formal derivation rule and join path definitions we are working on behind the scenes. More of this work will be publicly visible in the coming months.

Other improvements include standardization of object absorption during relational mapping so that chains of 1-1 relationships produce results similar to non-chained one-to-one relationships, changes to relational mapping behavior with informal derivation rule patterns, synchronization of the IsPersonal property with subtypes, usability enhancements that maintain model browser selection when an ORM document is deactivated, and miscellaneous bug fixes. Details are available in the included Documentation\Readme.htm installed with NORMA and in the SVN change logs on sourceforge. A copy of the readme has also been posted as the release notes on sourceforge so you can review changes before you download the binaries.
