Hi Cosmin,

(OptiPNG 0.6.2, Win XP SP3)

1. Take a bmp file with its resolution defined in the bmp file itself.

2. Convert it with optipng.

3. Optipng won't store the resolution in the created png file.

I wish optipng would take the resolution settings from the bmp file and store it in the png file. (For example, Gimp offers that when saving a bmp file as png file.)

David

Thank you for the request, David.

So far, I didn't bother to save the resolution [pHYs] because many times
the BMP file had a bogus resolution info (e.g. MS Paint sets this info
depending on whatever monitor resolution happens to be at the time when the
BMP image is saved). I understand your request, however.
In version 0.7, which right now is in early alpha stage, there will be
more metadata imported from external formats, and, at the same time, there
will be the option to strip the unwanted metadata. There will still be a
few months before version 0.7 is released, and meanwhile, there will still
be at least one more version in the 0.6 line.

So, is it okay if you keep using Gimp for now, and just feed Gimp's output
to OptiPNG, which will preserve the pHYs chunk?

    Best regards,
    Cosmin

    Hi Cosmin,

    thanks for your reply.

I am looking forward to version 7.0 and it is (of course) okay for me to keep using Gimp + OptiPNG. :-)

    Regards,
    David
