Hi. Right now if you do, after extracting the source tarball:

mkdir BUILD
cd BUILD
../configure

The build does not happen:

../configure: line 262: cd: src/zlib: No such file or directory

The configure script should thus honour a directory prefix
so we can also compile relative in another directory.

Thank you.

This is a known limitation, partly due to the fact that zlib itself can't configure and build outside its own source directory.
Thank you very much for your report.

I released version 0.7.5. This feature is still not implemented, but now the configure script displays a meaningful error message about lack of support.

As long as zlib's configure can't run from a separate directory, the same shall be true with OptiPNG. I am marking this bug as "closed-later".
