Would be very useful to be able to download them directly without having to compile.

I can responsible for compiling new releases on OS X. And I'm sure we can find someone for Linux.

What do you think?

Hello, and thank you very much for volunteering.

There are ports on many systems, some of which are mentioned in the THANKS document: http://optipng.sourceforge.net/thanks.html
I welcome any new contribution, and if you do make any, please let me know and I will gladly credit you in that document.

As for providing binaries directly from the OptiPNG home page, I consider it better to leave that up to the package repositories instead. The users of each of these repositories or systems have a one-stop shop to get everything they need, instead of having to visit homepages for each software that they might want to download.
