Yes, it's in gfx.wad .

I hope you're right. Then again, the guys at id software seem like nice
guys, so hopefully they won't mind anyway.

Even if we don't use .pcx files, there are lots of other binary files
that CVS will have to handle to make this project work. I wouldn't mind
adding .xpm support in addition to .pcx support, though, but I'm not
familiar with the format, so someone would have to tell me how (or do
it).
