You can take the ranges out of discovery-configuration.xml after your nodes exist in the database. discovery does a "ping test" and based on that issues a suspect node event for capsd. Then capsd adds it to the database. If you only want specific entries, you can write a script to generate your own suspect node events, or include a URL for discovery to use. Hope that made sense.
