Wow! Great job. I actually have here a socket migration implementation, but it is far less sophisticated than yours. We'll look into it and see how we can integrate it with openMosix. We will get back to you if there is anything on your side that can make integration easier. Many thanks Moshe -----Original Message----- From: ope...@li... Subject: [Openmosix-devel] TCP connection (socket) migration I've recently worked a bit on TCP connection passing (tcpcp), which allows ownership of a TCP connection endpoint to be transferred between cooperating applications. (Plus, there must of course be some mechanism to actually redirect network traffic, but tcpcp doesn't depend on how this part works.) I know that Mosix used (only) a less efficient mechanism involving redirection through the original node, so I thought that this may be of interest for openMosix, too. My code is at http://www.almesberger.net/tcpcp/ The good news is that tcpcp seems to work. The bad news is that it does so rather inefficiently (e.g. after migration, the connection goes through slow start again, even if we could allow it to do better), but I'm planning to fix this. tcpcp does nothing for non-TCP sockets. I actually consider it a feature of tcpcp that the application has to be aware of what's happening, but if there is interest, I'll be more than happy to add whatever interfaces are needed to make it useful for openMosix or similar projects. Of course, if you already have a better solution than tcpcp, I'd like to hear about that as well :-) I'm not subscribed to the openMosix mailing lists, so please Cc me on any replies.
