Hi, 
Yes I am using cygwin bash, with minw gcc (MSCVRT.dll). I have gotten
proj4 to compile, and I am working on Gdal (which is much more of a pain).
Can you explain what the flags /Zi /Fd$(GDAL_ROOT)\gdal.pdb are so i can
figure out the gcc equivalents? so far I have gotten libcpl in the port
directory working and i am working on ogr.

I am hoping to do this I can just convert the python libs, I don't want to
compile python from scratch. 

also once i get this working do you want me to send the makefiles, diffs
and a readme?
