It would be really cool to be able to export the database not only as gpx, but also to a format which is either understood by the Garmin POI Loader or which can directly be transmitted to the memory of the GPSr. This is the only possibility to export a larger number of waypoints to non-gpx-enabled Garmin devices like the eTrex series or 60Csx.
For me this is the last reason not to use OCM instead of GSAK, which includes this feature in this macro: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=8932

Actually, POI support (.gpi) went into 0.23.10 for devices that can directly take a POI database. You should be able to use it with a 60Csx. Go to File->Export->Export Garmin POI.

The one thing left to do is still generate a POI Loader capable GPX for machines that don't have a mass storage mode such as my eTrex Venture HC

  • I wanted to try this feature out today, but I only got an error message saying:
"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web,Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies."

By the way: If it would be working, would there be different Icons for Traditional, Multi-Caches and so on displayed on the map (like when exported with the mentioned GSAK-Macro)?

What version of linux are you running? You seem to be missing a mono system library (on Ubuntu, it's called lib-mono-system-web2.0-cil)

Not automatically. Within the limits of GPSBabel I can only send one category/icon at a time. So for now, you'd have to filter on cache type, set the bmp icon (you can use the icons from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencachemanage/files/Custom%20Icons%20for%20Garmin/ or you can use the gc.com set from http://www.thepropers.com/geocaching/60SeriesCustomSymbols.htm), and repeat for each cache type. OCM 1.0 will introduce plugin support, which means I could write a plugin that goes through your DB and creates one .gpi per cache type, setting the icon and category correctly.

Actually, the multiple GPI files i is how the macro does it to (http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=3172)

Basically, this feature right now is the foundation that will allow the feature your want in the future.

Thanks a lot, that did the trick!

And thanks for the information about how the export of different databases works. So probably I'll still be using GSAK for exporting POIs some time, before I'll completely switch to OCM. However the OSM-Map and the multiple GPSr possibility make it even better than GSAK for everyday use.
Thanks a lot for the great development work! :-)
