The following program fails if "sub" is declared private, saying "Object "a C" does not understand message "SUB"" ...

    signal on novalue
    c = .C~new
    c~main

say 'In sub'

say 'In main'
self~sub
interpret 'self~sub' -- <------------ fails
say 'In main'
