When searching in a project, it is quite hard to navigate around. Especially when you have to visit each hit.
It would save time and clicks when you could just press a key and then navigate to the next found result in the search window.

Doesn't using Filter provide what you want?

You can just press a key (Enter) to go from one search result to the other.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that one. Filter does large part of the trick; restricting the main window to what you are searching for.

However, I think it is not intuitive. Two suggested changes:

    • Move "Number of results: xxx" closer to the Filter button. For instance, by moving the count and label to the bottom of the window. This make the Filter button make better clear what it does.
    • Rename "Filter" to "Apply Filter". Filter is a verb and noun, the Dutch translation used the noun instead of the verb.

    Is that a good change?

I think it's more a question of documentation. Filtering isn't documented at all, while it's available since 2.1.5, and changes.txt says:
Filter search results in the Editor
For explanations, see Searches in the English documentation

I found the issue. The documentation was written by the developer, but was ignored by the documentation manager, who didn't use it when we moved to the DocBook format. I'll try to restore it.

Rename "Filter" to "Apply Filter". Filter is a verb and noun, the Dutch translation used the noun instead of the verb.

Except for a few specific cases, actions buttons are supposed to be verbs by default. I recommend contacting the Dutch translator (the French localisation uses the verb).

I have restored the lost documentation in SVN (2.6, 3.0 and /trunk).

As I consider the Filter feature (+ documentation) an adequate answer to the initial request, I close as "won't fix".
