I am starting work on the skeletal system in zebrafish and have run into problems with the basibrachial cartilage, bones and the copula.
I am having problems figuring out what the relationship between the basibranchial cartilage and copula.
Relations in trees below are is_a unless marked Dev

In TAO the structure is
skeletal element
- endochonral element
-- basibrachal element
--- basibranchial 1 element
---- basibranchial 1 bone
---- basibranchial 1 cartilage
----- Dev basibranchial 1 bone
.
.
.

- cartilage element
-- copula
--- anterior copula
---- Dev basibranchial 1 cartilage
---- Dev basibranchial 2 cartilage
---- Dev basibranchial 3 cartilage
--- posterior copula
---- Dev basibranchial 4 cartilage
---- Dev basibranchial 5 cartilage

This seems to conflict with the description of basibranchial development found in Cubbage and Mabee 1996 and with the description of copula formation in Catostomus commersonii in Engerman et. al. 2009. The 2009 paper is clear that in C. commersonii there aren't distinct basibranchial cartilages for basibranchials 1-3 and basibrachial cartilages 4 and 5 develop into the posterior copula, not from it.

I am having more trouble understanding the zebrafish development but I think that again there aren't separate basibranchial cartilages unless the "cartilage pads that remain between adjacent basibranchials in the adult" are called basibranchial cartilages
I think this would lead to the following structure in the ZFA, the ? are the cartilage parts I am having trouble with
