No

abnormal cellular/corpuscular hemoglobin content (CH)
decreased cellular/corpuscular hemoglobin content (CH)
increased cellular/corpuscular hemoglobin content (CH)

(This is not the same as mean corpuscular hemoglobin.)

CH is reported in picograms (pg). It is defined as the mean of the red blood cell hemoglobin concentration (RBC CH) histogram. The RBC CH histogram represents the distribution of red blood cells by the amount of hemoglobin present in each individual cell independent of cell volume.

I'm concerned that this term and some of the other existing MP hemoglobin terms are losing the distinction between the phenotype that is observed and the assay used to determine the phenotype. In this case we may be better served to have term that describes abnormalities in red cell hemoglobin content that could be used independent of whether the assay/index was corpuscular hemoglobin content, mean corpuscular hemoglobin content, or whatever other assays or indices are used to investigate changes in cellular hemoglobin levels.
    Thanks

  • The various hemoglobin terms I've submitted are used by at least one large-scale mutagenesis project in describing mutant phenotypes. They are not interpreted as phenotypes I can select from the ontology; they are simply classed as high or low, with measurements for the mutant vs. control values. We need to be able to enter these data without having to interpret them in clinical terms.
