Score! I panicked a bit when Irealized I should get it in today. What do you think about: We have developed a web-based tool to support community curation on a large scale. The community annotation tool, CANTO, is highly configurable and can be set up for use by most research communities, with minimal support from professional curators. It is therefore highly suitable for research communities not supported by a manual curation team, but who want to contribute gene-specific experimental information to the biological databases from their organism. To date, CANTO has been set-up and used for community curation by the *S. pombe* community, the *K. pastoris* (Pichia) community and in Gene Ontology workshops at UCL where researchers and post-graduates are invited to curate their own papers of interest. The tool can be set-up to recognize different identifiers such as organism specific systematic gene identifiers, or UniProt identifiers. It is also configurable for the types of data that can be curated. For instance, in the UCL curation workshops, community curators are restricted to annotating their gene to GO terms whereas the *S. pombe*community can curate additional information, such as phenotypes and post-translational modifications. The tool is fully accessible online, thereby avoiding the need to download software which might discourage certain users. We have integrated help and tips where appropriate, however, feedback from community curators is very positive stating that the tool is very intuitive and easy to use. The tool is in continuous development, meaning that we can use feedback from users to improve existing features or to implement new ones.
