0.7.1 default language

  • chinablues

Hi, I'm new to OpenBiblio. I've downloaded OpenBiblio 0.7.1 and installed it to my Debian box without problem, but the defaul language is French, although there are only it_IT and en_US under locale folder. Can anyone tell me how or any link to the howto that I can change it to English or UTF8 if possible? Thanks.

Under the Admin tab, select 'Library Settings', the lok at 'Locale' therei should be a 'English' selection. if there isn't, look in the folders under openBiblio on your disk. the Locale Folder should have a 'en' folder within it. If not ask here and perhaps someone can send you a copy of the folder.

I am not sure about UTF8. Search the various parts of this forum and you may find a discussion of that.

  • but the defaul language is French, although there are only it_IT and en_US under locale folder.

The default language is English for the downloads from https://sourceforge.net/projects/obiblio/files/
Until now we did not include translations to other languages.

So if your installation is different, perhaps you have added translations yourself.

Or perhaps you are using a download from an unrelated project http://openbiblio.sourceforge.net
It is likely that the default language for this other project is French. Unfortunately the project name for "our" project is almost identical. Sorry if this has caused confusion :-/

Hi, this is really embarrassed. First I was trying to follow the instructions suggested by Fed and Jacken who replied immediately to my question, but I was having problem to find the files they mentioned. I was then tied up with other works, so leave the installation undone, until I got time come back today to check where I've done wrong.

Hans was right, I downloaded both files from from openbiblio and obiblio from sourceforge.net. I thought that I installed the one from obiblio, apparently I was wrong. I've now followed the instruction finished the installation of obiblio, and looks like everything going fine. Thanks for the help from Fred and Jacken, also the help of clarification from Hans. And sorry again for my careless caused confusion.

    Still te question remains:
    - are there any localizations?
    - is there an environment to create localizations?
    - Is there a French localization?

(sorry for crossposting my 'cause', I am a bit desperate on getting a French version of Openbiblio and am more than willing to contribute if possible.)

  • Translations for the 0.x.x branch (current release file is 0.7.1) are listed here: http://obiblio.sourceforge.net/index.php/Main/AddOns
Please note that development for the 0.x.x branch will be discontinued at some point in the future. As a matter of fact: most of our current development efforts are for the newer branch 10-wip. For translations it's the opposite: many translations have been published for the older branch (and some are up to date or almost up to date). For the newer branch there isn't anything published yet, as far as I can see.

    Documentation for translating 0.x.x:

    French translation:
Yes, there is a translation for the 0.x.x branch, so if you are in a hurry go to https://sourceforge.net/p/obiblio/patches/42/
I haven't tested this translation myself. Looking at the messages and the zipfile, I think it's updated for version 0.6.0. If this version is correct, you only need to add a couple of strings to make it work for 0.7.1.
Probably you'll run into an issue when installing OpenBiblio with language "Français" selected, because the directories under /locale/fr/sql/ aren't included. You can take these from /locale/en/ and translate where needed (probably only the newest version number).

    Crosspost / desperate:
Sorry that it was not obvious where to look for translations. So now that I have made this more clear, let's look into another interesting issue: the code in OpenBiblio's release branch isn't future proof. Discussion for this can continue in your first post:
