When I compare two text files with Notepad++ 5.8.2 Compare Plugin 1.5.6.1 on my Windows 7 64-bit system, the result is a repeated flashing screen.
The only way out is to force a system shutdown via Ctrl-Alt-Del. Even this is not easy, if you have any unsaved files.
It would seem that the fact my system is the 64-bit version of Windows 7 may be the significant circumstance here.
The symptom does not occur on the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

I have copied this from http://ehc.ac/p/notepad-plus/bugs/3002/ and put it here which seemed like a more official place for it..

I can confirm this. It happens rarely, but I experienced it a few times. Windows 7 64 Bit too, on a Thinkpad T530 with Intel HD graphics.

  • I have the same problem using Notepad++ v.5.9.4 using Compare Plugin 1.5.6 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine with a Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 chip (Dell Inspiron E6400 series). Usually compare works just fine, sometimes it flickers once and in rare cases it goes completely haywhire and I need to pull the battery from my laptop to recover.

  • I have exactly the same problem here using Compare plugin. But I can see the mouse pointer on the screen when it flashes (by less than 1sec) and I can close notepad++ program. The problem stops when I close notepad++.

I tried to change monitor's refresh rate from 60hz to 40hz and tried to change resolution but nothing worked. Follow some informations.
