Sorry, I don't know where the suggestion should post.
I just want to suggest a development of a plugin that is able to convert encoding like big5, gbk, gb, hz, shift-jis and else.
Because i do not find much powerful free encoding converter.
Does every character in all of these encodings (and other encodings which you know) consist of two bytes? Or there can be characters (letters) which may consist of three bytes or more (or less)?
I'm asking this because current version of the ConvertExt plugin allows to use any single-byte encoding (one character is one byte), and, I think, it would be not very hard to implement double-byte encoding (one character is two bytes).
But if we want multi-byte encoding with variable number of bytes for different characters, then the principles of such encoding conversions will be different than for the fixed (single- or double-byte) encodings.
Mmm... what I know about the characters like big5, gb and shift-jis are 2-byte encodings, other I am not sure.
OK. I have been updating current version of the ConvertExt plugin for two months already (and it's still not finished), so give me several months more, and the double-byte encoding conversions will be implemented. Anyway, it will be finished in 2007. :-) So, please, wait for a while...
