New file - how to assign file type without storing?

    I use notepad++ also for temporary work like cutting & pasting, changing and bringing the text back to where it came from.

    Or as as w work list that I delet in what I have worked on.

    Unfortunately, using "file - new" & paste text from another source does not support highlighting i.e. for PHP or c++ etc as it does not know what kinda type the new file shall be.

    How can I achieve highlighting without the need to save the temp file (that needs to be destroyed later ect.)?

    Is there anything like "assign type" or so available?

    Hi jwka,

    go to Languages menu and select a desired language, like PHP or C++.

      Tried that but no syntax highlightning unfortunately until I save ...
