v6.3.3 is just available:
I have installed Notepad++ twice now on two different machines (both Windows 7 Enterprise x64 with SP1), both machines experienced the same issue.
After installing Notepad++ I have executed it and the Notepad++ window is extremely small. Please see attached. I can drag out the window and it is then fine...but I guess this isn't expected behaviour.
After installing the latest version the scroll functionality on my touchpad does not work anymore. I quick searched the settings but was not lucky.
Í do not know if it works as designed of if it is a small bug. Fact is, I use it a lot and it slows down editing now it is missing.
I hope it is a setting or bug :-)
Hi Don Ho and All,
@ Don :
Could you consider this very small improvement, concerning Replacement
in the "Find in Files" dialog, described at the address below :
It'll be more secure ! Thanks.
With my 6.3.1 version, I already installed and tested the new plugin
"DSPellCheck", which comes with the new 6.3.3 version of N++.
So, if you need dictionaries about any other language, just copy
them from the ftp address below :
( May be other addresses could suit, but this one is OK. It looks like that
the Open Office Suite use theses dictionaries too ! )
For each copied archive, extract the TWO files :
in the "'..\Notepad++\Plugins\Config\Hunspell" directory
To end, you'll have to select "Plugins\DSpellCheck\Settings..."
and choose your language and, eventually, the library "Hunspell",
in case "Aspell" application is already installed. That's all !
For example, as I'm French :
I downloaded the three archives "fr_FR-1990_1-3-2.zip",
"fr_FR_1-3-2.zip", and "fr_FR-classique_1-3-2.zip"
And, in my "'..\Notepad++\Plugins\Config\Hunspell" directory,
I copied the six files below :
"fr_FR-1990.aff" and "fr_FR-1990.dic"
"fr_FR.aff" and "fr_FR.dic"
"fr_FR-classique.aff" and "fr_FR-classique.dic"
Good work with our loved editor !
Yes your suggestion makes totally sense.
The problem is this dialog use the Win32 ready-to-use OK-Cancel dialog.
The default button is set on OK.
I'll see what can I do for that. If you guys have any other idea, please let me know.
To change the default button to the second one in a message box, simply use option MB_DEFBUTTON2.
I'm experiencing the problem that Lee Wilmott described in the second post, too. I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.
Jan Schreiber, interestingly my colleague has just experienced this issue - but hasn't upgraded to v6.3.3 yet. So, something else must be causing this (rather than something in v6.3.3 specifically). Perhaps a plug-in?
Is no-one really experiencing this issue? I find it strange that only one person has reported this issue. On the four machines that I've tried, three of them have experienced this issue. Strange.
Thank you François-R Boyer for the tip.
Committed in SVN.
@ Don Ho,
Thanks for taking my suggestion in consideration.
But, in my last post, I just forgot to say that is
I get the "tiny window" problem that Lee mentioned every time I launch after rebooting my machine.
@ Lee & John:
Could you provide the instructions to reproduce this problem?
1 - Open NP++ (2 copy for me)
2 - shutdown the computer (with open NP++)
3 - Next time NP++ opens a small window.
You remember the request for the opening of the session file in another instance if i have started copy NP++.exe?
I cannot absolutely reproduce the bug with you instructions. (with one or 2 instance)
Can you always reproduce it ?
To be honest, I'm not sure how useful this is, but here goes...
I was using Notepad++ v6.3.2 with a maximized window on my Home PC.
I noticed that Notepad++ v6.3.3 was released so I installed it (on my Home PC). Immediately after installing it, I opened Notepad++ only the find the window was extremely small (as per my image on my original post). In fact, at first, I wasn't 100% sure that Notepad++ opened at all ('cos I couldn't see it - and then I noticed it in the Task Bar).
I 'assumed' that the small window was 'unique to my home computer' so I manually made the window bigger, then maximized the window ('cos that's how I like it) and moved on.
The following day I came into work and I remembered that a new release of Notepad++ was available so I upgraded it on my Work PC (from v6.3.2 to v6.3.3). Again, the same thing happened, as soon as I installed it, I opened it and found that it had a very small window.
I then 'shouted out' to my colleagues and said that there's a minor issue with the latest release of Notepad++ and asked them not to upgrade just yet (assuming that the issue would be identified and fixed).
However, a day or two passed when a colleague of mine asked what the minor issue with Notepad++ was. I said to him, I'll show you.
I said, open your "EXISTING" version of Notepad++ (ie. v6.3.2) (to prove that the window looked correct and of the right size). However, when he opened Notepad++ (v6.3.2) it had the really small window that I experienced.
I was so convinced that this issue was with v6.3.3 but my colleague's experience disproved that theory.
Incidentally, all of the above tests were performed on Windows 7 Enterprise (x64).
Thank you Lee for the very detailed description.
I'll try to reproduce the bug. If I can, the the bug can be fixed.
Hi, Don Ho, Developers, Translators and Users,
Did you see one of my last posts at the address below :
What do you think of ?
Hi Don! Yes reproduce it!
After 20 times rebooting in various combinations.
It dawned on me!
After all, the answer was right in front of your eyes.
All the matter in the parameters of minimization.
The program remembers the window size at shutdown as minimization.
(Error reproduce even without a reboot.
Minimize, close, start again.)
To open the two or three files of session in in different instances, has to do a lot of action.
1 - open session one
2 - open any file in new instances
3 - cleat it
4 - drag session two ....
I plead with you about the function ))))))
Open this file of session in a new instance?
YES \ NO
Thank you for the instructions. I can reproduce the bug with closing the reduced Notepad++.
The bug has been fixed and it will be included in the next release.
Regarding your feature request, I'll consider it. In the meantime, you can use cmd:
c:\Notepad++>Notepad++.exe -multiInst YOURSESSION_FILE
I managed to locate and fix that window size problem, see [patches:#480]
Thank you Pekka for your patch.
However, it has been fixed by changing the following line :
You can check it in the last revision.
Pekkas patch does not only simplify the current code a lot by using more appropriate WinAPI functions, it also solves restoring windows in an Aero-snapped state. Currently their position is not correctly restored to the non-snapped position after restart.
Therefore the patch still offers some advantages over your quick workaround.
Many thanks for identifying the issue and fixing it!
I'm not sure my very detailed steps helped tho'! :-) lol

Well done, you chaps, for finding the cause of this quirk and fixing it - it has been driving me crackers for a couple of weeks; I only just now found this thread.
Otherwise, many thanks for a great editor - one of my first actions on rebuilding a system is always to make it the default.
