only create surface mesh?

  • Dear Netgen experts,

I am wondering if it is possible to only create surface mesh and then save the surface mesh in stl format?
The triangles export from CAD software are often highly stretched.  Currently I mesh in netgen to get well-shaped triangles, then, export to stl format.  I do not need to interior elements for this purpose.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Pei,

    A Good Day to you!

Yes, you can tell Netgen to go only up to the surface mesh optimisation step, and stop after this step rather than going on to create a volume mesh.

Basically, you need to go to the second tab of the Meshing Options window. Here, change the drop down list of the "last step" option to "optimize surface mesh" rather than "optimize volume mesh" (The exact lines may look different…. I am working from Memory :-)!).

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi, Philippose,

I have to say that you got excellent memory!  Yap, I just did it the way you mentioned and this is exactly what I am looking for,
