It would be OK if there were a comand to coment lines
in fortran, that is, inserting a "!" at the begining of
the line.

Nedit's macro language makes it quite easy to do that for
yourself (and assign a shortcut key to do it) -- if you
want some help, write to me -- rhkramer@fast.net

Does this work exactly as for X Resources? Then you could
simply add the name of the language mode ('Fortran') to the
X Resource macro menu entry. (Preferences->Default
    Settings->Customize Menus->Macro Menu)

If this works then we could add it to the next release.

Hmm, if you're asking me, I know hardly anything at all
    about X-resources.

(I'm quite certain the macro can be made specific to the
Fortran language mode as you describe.)

Well, do these ! in Fortran work as # works in shell scripts
or in Perl or as // works in C++? The rest of the line is
    made inert for the compiler/interpreter?

(You might have guessed that I know less about Fortran than
    you do about X resources.)

you can do that easily with regular expression.

if you want to add this command to the gui, then
you can add an entry under the Macro menu, use
nedit's ultra intuitive macro language for that.

Was the advice useful? Did the X Resource comment work for
    Fortran?

    Assumed to be resolved.
