After spending too long fiddling with Makefiles today,
I would
like to make the following _feature request_

If possible, create an option "Display Tab Characters"
that would provide some visual distinction between sets
of blanks and tab-characters.

Thanks -- and thanks for my favorite programming
editor!

    Preferences -> Apply Backlighting

    The default setting differentiate between spaces and tabs.

    If you want to change the colors used for the backlighting,
    have a look at Help->Customizing->X Resources,
    nedit.backlightCharTypes. I'm usually only interested in
    special characters and tabs (assuming spaces by default), so
    I use
    nedit.backlightCharTypes: 0-8,10-31,127:red;9:LemonChiffon

    Please let us know if the documentation is unclear.
