I raised this on the mailing list:

http://www.nedit.org/pipermail/discuss/2006-September/008652.html

Short summary:

Currently, xprop for any nedit (editor) window shows
this line:

WM_CLASS(STRING) = "textShell", "NEdit"

The first entry is always "textShell".
I first wanted to distinguish windows belonging to
different nedit servers and changed window.c to
append the server name (if set) to textShell.
Then it was pointed out that the "correct" change
should be to handle the standard -name resource to
change the "textShell" per user request.

nedit in fact should support the -name option as most
other (useful) X apps do.

I got my first idea with the appended server name
hacked in quite easily and started to add the -name
option; where I am not sure what to do with code in
window.c that uses "textShell" to identify windows.

I'm going to attach the changes I did so far as a to
this bug.
