No

Even if nedit detect that we are in a program the option
Wrap -> Auto New Line is still set !

This Preference should neither be set by default when a
program (in my case Sh Ksh Bash) is detected.

I agree. I don't think that auto-nl is the most popular
choice or the most conservative one. This should be changed
    to None.

This is a dup of Bug #1087257 (RFE: change default to
wrap=none for lines). I made the same proposal to the team
following the bug item, but didn't get any reply.

I agree too - though I think "Continuous" is a bit more
friendly to the average user. Auto-nl can be suprising if
    you're not used to it.

I would set it to None; continuous is a close second (and
may not break the principle of least surprise since many
other editors do this). The auto-newline is to me definitely
wrong: it can too easily change file content without the
user being too aware of what's happening.

Is it just a matter of changing the default preference? If
    so, let's do it.

About #1087257: Hm, seems that I even changed the data type
on this one. Was this a bug before? Do we agree now that it
    is a bug?

None vs. Continuous: People would notice None right away and
look for a wrap setting if they want to change it. OTOH, if
the setting is Continuous they might never notice that a)
they have a choice or b) Auto-NL is no longer default.

Choose continuous. Optimize for new users, that's what
other editors do. Existing users can easily switch.

Existing users might wrongly assume that Auto-NL is still
the default. Choosing None will make this obvious and might
    save them some pain.

New users will also see at once that something is not as
they might want it and can easily switch. Also, I think
pointing out options is good for new users, so it's
    optimized for them.

Re existing users: I think existing users will have an
.nedit file saved, and thus their prefence will not change.

I'm saying the default for NEW USERS should be continuous -
that's what other editors do. Rather than pointing out how
to change it, they will probably assume nedit can't wrap,
    and just move on.

Ever start up emacs, get throughly confused how it does
wrapping, try to change it, and give up? That's how users feel.

I know a number of regular users who don't save their settings.

But I'm convinced, Continuous may be better.

I'm okay with either Continuous or None, as long as it's not
    Auto-NL.

I added a fix to CVS head, just changing the default
preference resource from Newline to Continuous. The command
line parameter meanings are the same: -wrap (Continuous)
    -nowrap (None) -autowrap (Newline).
