Nedit version: 5.5RC2
Platform: Linux, Solaris (binaries)

When using CTRL+SHIFT+N, or using the File menu "New
(In window)" item, a new window is opened, instead of a
new tab in existing window.

In RC1 everything worked fined.

    This is intended.
"New (in window)" means "New file in separate window".
To open a new tab, simply choose New.

I was expecting that this change was going to cause
confusion. The first time I saw it, I picked the wrong menu
    item too.

Would 'New (in New Window)' be more clear?

I find this really is quite confusing. To me "New (in window)"
translate into "open a new [document/tab] in the window". If
we can change the menu text for one, why not change both
so we have "New Tab" and "New Window" per the preference.
If someone is going to pull down the File menu, then they are
prepare to read the menu text, so the menu should be clear
and concise. IMO, we should at least remove the 'in' so it
would just read "New (Window)" or "New (Tab)" per the pref
    setting.

Apology for this late feedback. I've been rather busy lately,
and didn't involve much in the earlier round of discussion.

I too didn't know what to do until I tried both to know how
    they were suppose to do.

"New Window" looks clear enough to me (next to the plain "New").
"New (in New Window)" is less ambiguous than "New (in
Window)" but I expect that some people would stil get
slightly confused, especially those who don't make the
    connection File->New ...

    OK.
Didn't know functionality had changed (in RC1 CTRL+SHFT+N
    opened a new tab).

regarding, the menu item text, I think that "new window",
and "new tab" (as in RC1) will be clearer.

I just committed a change for this. The file menu now has:
    New
    New Window
    or:
    New
    New Tab
depending on prefs. I hope this is more clear.

    Not a bug.
