Our system administrator just upgraded my system from
Mandrake 9.2 to Madrake 10. Since that moment, I am not
able anymore to use the character "3" from the main
keyboard (you know: above the letters): it causes nedit
to take all CPU resources. However, when I use the "3"
of the numerical part of the keyboard (you know, near
the NumLock), then there's no problem...

Please send us the first 8 lines from "Help > Version" (or the
output from "nedit -V") which will give us extra information to
    help us reproduce your problem.

I get the same type of problem with mandrake 10.0, but it is
    the "6" character that I can't obtain (instead I obtain "_").

Can you please try NEdit 5.5RC2 (see www.nedit.org for a link) and tell
    us if the problem remains?

OK, I made some tests with the 5.4 and 5.5RC2 versions (the
binary for linux). Actually the problem remains with 5.5RC2.
It stills write an underscore instead of 6 if I use my 5.4
.nedit file. If I cancel this file, then I get nothing when
pressing "Shift + -" (I have a french AZERTY keyboard).
Using the numeric pad I can get the "6" character both in
    5.4 and 5.5RC2.
However the "Shift + -" combination works in the dialogs (I
tested "find" and "wrap margin ...").
To summarize, this character "6" (= "Shift + -") does not
appear only in the main window both in 5.4 and 5.5RC2.

This is weird. Shift+- translates to an underscore on a
qwerty keyboard. Somehow, the keyboard mappings appear to be
mixed up. It is unlikely that this is an NEdit problem,
because NEdit does not deal with this kind of mappings. I
suspect that it is a Motif or an X problem.

Does the problem remain if you switch to another locale? Ie.
    try:
    LANG=C nedit

    (or setenv LANG C; nedit)

Yes the problem remains. I checked the right LANG setting
using the shell execution in nedit. Anyway, this is only a
nedit problem because I have not this behavior in any other
application, e.g. kwrite, kedit, xedit, gvim ...

By the way, there is another "strange" behavior of nedit.
When I open a dialog box such as Save as... or Open..., and
select a file name in the Files window, the selected name is
never highlighted. However I know it is selected because if
I click twice on it, nedit opens the right file.

BTW, this is a bug tracker. The mailing list is
    discuss@nedit.org.

You are using KDE, aren't you. Turn off KDE's
color setting for non-KDE apps, or delete the
    file nedit.ad from your system.

Try using xev on these keys. What results do you get? Note
that you tend to get a lot of results with xev; try to
isolate the one belonging to the keys in question, and maybe
one working for comparison. If it's still to large, attach a
file instead of posting it here.

The behavior I reported using Mandrake 10 has disappeared
since my upgrade to Mandriva 2006 (that is mandrake 10.2 I
    guess).

This bug report can be closed now.
